An altered chair!

Yes..really! It is a little chair I picked up for 50pence at a charity shop. It is about 4 inches high so really it is a small doll's chair I suppose. It was brown wood so I rubbed it down with sandpaper and painted it with diluted acrylic white with some purple streaks. I stuck on tiny cut out flowers and garden creatures with gel medium and then I coated it with a varnish I had in the DIY cupboard! I think this was a mistake as it did not come out as well as I had hoped. I might sand it down and try again. (Serve me right for not buying the right thing ...so saving a bit of cash!).

I have also recently discovered a new magazine called "Altered Art". It comes from the States but is apparently available here in UK from some art and craft outlets. I hope I can find it again because it is really good and has loads of ideas for using every day stuff to do altering with. I like to experiment with what I have or else this lark could become an expensive hobby! I could become hopelessly addicted to new materials and if I buy too much I never can remember what I've got anyway!

Back to the art space above-the-washing-machine-and-next-to-the-back-door. It badly needs tidying up!

Families are special!

Last weekend we had a bit of a family get together. Weather did not permit a barbecue which is the normal way we do these things! It is quite difficult to get our three offspring and other halves together on one date and has to be arranged hugely in advance! One of the best things is we get to see our grandson Ben, who is extremely cute .......which is understandable of course as we are all extremely cute in our family !!!! Ahem!

Still this weekend he took a fancy to our heirloom rocking chair. Belonged to my grandmother and who knows where it came from before then. I used to love it and now Ben seems to love it too! He soon learned how to rock backwards and forwards all on his own!
