Had a day of discovery...I found (and spent hours in...) a shop in Bromley, Kent. Called The Craft Jungle it is full of stuff for scrapbookers, and paper artists. It is a real Aladdin's Cave and I can see it being the downfall of my (sorry...our..) bank account!
I also took delivery of some goodies I ordered from one of my favourite shops...Rainbow Silks in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire. I am about to try Xpandaprint for the first time and also pursue some more dyeing of fabric...this time putting in some black Procion MX to get different shades.
Best of all though I had ordered a magazine called Somerset Studio Gallery. I had not seen it before and it is just gorgeous. I want to make art like the people in this book! It is one of those books that I shall just keep on finding new things to inspire me.

My inspirations...?
I am inspired by trees and tree bark, by music, events...things I feel strongly about - like poppy day and remembering the people who gave their lives and loved ones so that I could live the past half century in relative peace in the UK.
I get ideas from artists I admire. People who influence me are Beryl Taylor, Sherrill Khan together with British textile artist Maggie Grey. I gets lots of inspiration from the US magazines I read ...Quilting Arts and Cloth Paper Scissors. I think we could do with a UK version. Maggie Grey edits the Workshop on the Web to which I am a subscriber and this is great but I also feel that the UK market could do with a mixed media magazine which was not mostly creative embroidery.

Today I have worked on an experiment using painted Bondaweb (fusible web) and painted brown paper. Painting the webbing on the rough side and letting it dry. Painting the brown paper with silk paints and letting that dry. After scrunching up the paper until it was soft and pliable I then bonded it to a piece of calico. I found some difficulty in getting the paper backing off the webbing?
Having persevered I then bonded the brown paper down with the iron (over some teflon baking parchment). When this had cooled I also bonded down the painted side of the Bondaweb and when that was peeled back, revealing an interesting surface I put it under the machine and stitched with embroidery. The effect was interesting but needs more experimentation.
